Airtel Uganda has participated in the ITU Global Symposium of Regulators, facilitating connections for over 800 delegates via its advanced 5G network. This international event serves as a vital platform for the exchange of ideas, collaboration, and the adoption of best practices in ICT and digital regulation.

Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, stressed the necessity of integrating technology to drive socioeconomic transformation. He underscored the role of ICTs in enhancing productivity, government efficiency, business competitiveness, and institutional effectiveness.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of ITU, praised African nations, including Uganda, for proactively shaping their digital futures. She highlighted the Continental Artificial Intelligence Strategy and African Digital Compact as evidence of the region’s dedication to digital progress.

Hon. George William Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), emphasized the importance of affordable smart devices to close the digital divide. He stated that internet access is essential for education, healthcare, financial inclusion, and social development.

Vice President Jessica Alupo, representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, lauded the ITU for uniting regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas and adopt best practices. She called for a regulatory environment that champions innovation, safety, privacy, and user rights.

Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Ph.D., BDT Director at ITU, highlighted the symposium as a key venue for sharing best practices in ICT and digital regulation. He stressed the importance of a regulatory framework that supports innovation while ensuring safety and privacy.

Airtel Uganda representatives, including Dennis Kakonge, David Birungi, MCIPR, and Sadiya Hussein, hosted dignitaries for a lunch, reaffirming Airtel Uganda’s commitment to digital inclusion and the nation’s development journey. Airtel Uganda remains dedicated to creating a more connected world and promoting digital inclusion.
