Airtel Uganda has become a part of the ITU Global Symposium of Regulators, connecting over 800 delegates and connecting them to Airtel’s fast 5G Network. This global platform is crucial for exchanging ideas, collaborating, and adopting best practices in ICT and digital regulation.

Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, emphasized the need for technology integration to accelerate socioeconomic transformation. He highlighted the potential of ICTs to boost productivity and make governments more efficient, businesses more competitive, and institutions more effective.

Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General ITU, commended African countries, including Uganda, for taking ownership of their digital future. She acknowledged the landmark Continental Artificial Intelligence Strategy and African Digital Compact, demonstrating the region’s commitment to digital transformation.

Hon George William Nyombi Thembo, ED UCC, stressed the importance of affordable smart devices to bridge the digital divide. He emphasized that access to the Internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity, essential for education, medical care, financial inclusion, and social development.

Vice President Jessica Alupo, speaking on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, commended the ITU for bringing together regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to share ideas and adopt best practices. She urged the promotion of a regulatory environment that prioritizes innovation, safety, privacy, and the rights of technology users.

Cosmas Luckyson ZAVAZAVA, PhD., BDT Director ITU, highlighted the GSR as a platform for exchanging best practices in ICT and digital regulation. He emphasized the need for a regulatory environment that prioritizes innovation, safety, privacy, and the rights of technology users.
