Microsoft Unveils AI-Powered Skills Service in Viva – UC Today

Microsoft has launched a new AI-powered skills service in Microsoft Viva, as well as announcing the general availability of Viva Amplify.

Entering private preview by the end of the year, Skills in Viva provides organisations with insights into workforce skills and gaps and personalised skills-based experiences for employees, HR, and business leaders via Microsoft 365 and Viva applications.

Now available, Viva Amplify is a multichannel workforce communications hub, which centralises campaign management, publishing, and analytics, helping business leaders to effectively connect with their employees.

Skills in Viva

Earlier this year, Microsoft WorkLab’s Work Trend Index Annual Report found that 82 percent of leaders believe their employees will need new skills to be prepared for the evolution of AI. Learning isn’t keeping up with the rate of innovation, however, with 60 percent of people saying they do not have the necessary capabilities to complete their work.

With AI-powered skills, HR and business leaders can better prioritise their strategies, improve business outcomes, while supporting and growing their workforce, according to Microsoft.

Skills in Viva combines Microsoft Graph’s employee activity signals across Microsoft 365 apps and services with skills from the LinkedIn Skills Graph, which maps global skills to jobs and learning content.

By applying AI reasoning to this data layer, Skills in Viva can work out an employee’s skills profile, providing Viva customers with a greater understanding of workforce skills.

Use cases for this service include a new set of dashboards within Viva Insights, which display the skill metrics to access capabilities, gaps, and opportunities for leaders to monitor.

Alternatively, HR, Learning and Development teams, and managers can use insights to create targeted learning academies or paths to upskill their teams. Viva Learning can also make intelligent recommendations about learning content.

Finally, employees can manage their skills in the skills editor in Viva, with confirmed skills being added to their Microsoft 365 profile card.

Viva Amplify

Research by Microsoft demonstrates that one of the top five work conditions is having leaders who are inspiring and engaging. Moreover, engaged employees are 46 percent more likely to view their companies as strong communicators and 37 percent more likely to trust the ability of their leaders.

Viva Amplify delivers the tools needed to improve company strategy, create two-way conversations, and motivate their workers.

Multichannel publishing enables communicators to publish across apps and devices for specific employees.

They can also create and manage campaigns to connect with workers from the same place.

Microsoft Viva now has over 35 million monthly active users in organisations including U.S: Bank, PayPal, DELL, Carlsberg Group, Haleon, Sage, CBRE, and more.
