Nokia and Telefónica have announced a three-year agreement to develop the private 5G network market in Spain. The collaboration aims to enhance productivity, worker safety, and sustainability across key mission-critical industries such as ports, manufacturing, and logistics.
Under the terms of the agreement, Nokia will deploy 100 units of its advanced solutions, including Digital Automation Cloud (DAC), Modular Private Wireless (MPW), MX Industrial Edge (MXIE), and Industrial devices. These technologies will be integrated into Telefonica’s network infrastructure to meet the growing demands of the Spanish Enterprise market.
Nokia’s one platform for industrial digitalisation is designed to simplify digital transformation across various industries. By providing a secure, reliable, and high-performing wireless infrastructure coupled with on-premises computing capabilities, the platform enables real-time operational technology data processing, crucial for accelerating digital transformation initiatives.
Adrián García Nevado, Business Director at Telefónica Spain, said: “This collaboration with Nokia aligns with our vision of empowering the industry with cutting-edge technology in a new era where artificial intelligence and the use of data lead the way forward. This strategy is preceded by more than 90 use cases with real customers for exploring the capabilities of 5G.”
The collaboration is expected to significantly boost Industry 4.0 adoption in Spain, enabling businesses to become more data-driven. It also provides a clear pathway for migrating use cases to 5G, further enhancing Telefonica’s network capabilities.
Nokia’s expertise in mission-critical networks is well-established, with deployments for over 2,600 leading enterprise customers worldwide across various sectors, including transportation, energy, manufacturing, and public services. The company has also extended its reach to more than 730 private wireless customers globally.
