Oracle has introduced Enterprise Communications Platform (ECP) to provide a range of cloud services for businesses by connecting Oracle industry applications to networks and IoT devices.

Built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), ECP can manage complex integrations and network contracts through its integrated capabilities, including IoT device management.

As well as providing secure communications for its industry apps, ECP also offers services like video and audio streaming, device management, recording capabilities, edge distributed processing, authentication, and authorisation.

This translates into businesses being able to give first responders a real-time view of active incidents, restaurants taking orders on tablets from anywhere, or monitoring transmission line health using IoT sensors.

Andrew Morawski, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Oracle Communications, commented on the results the firm is already seeing with ECP: “Given our history of delivering market-changing communications capabilities and our deep domain expertise in industry verticals, the Enterprise Communication Platform is a natural progression of our mission to help improve the way the world communicates.

“We’re already seeing incredible impact in the way industries such as healthcare, the public sector, hospitality, and energy and water are using this technology to help tackle some of their biggest IoT challenges.”

Previously, organisations have been maintaining various disparate communication devices with their own systems, datasets and processes like mobiles, video cameras, and tablets.

As a result, transparency is limited and it can be harder to quickly effect a solution to issues that may arise.

Using embedded APIs, ECP orchestrates, manages, and connects on-premises systems with edge, mobile, and IoT devices and sensors over one or more public or private networks to bring secure communications to Oracle industry cloud apps.

It is already functioning as the communications platform for Oracle’s Public Safety suite to enable communications for use cases like a dispatch command centre for the police and first aid providers and fire emergency call management.

ECP Edge also lets police capture mobile video on body cameras, security cameras, vehicle cameras, and car dashboard cameras, giving them a 270-degree view of incidents.

Caroline Chappell, Partner at Analysys Mason, believes ECP could represent a positive solution for the right company: “Oracle’s Enterprise Communications Platform (ECP) provides a critical bridge between the power of 5G networks and the industrial processes that can benefit from those properties.

“ECP shows that there is an exciting opportunity for operator network APIs when the market is application-led.”

With the release of ECP, Oracle is doubling down on its CPaaS drive, which adds major new technological capabilities to complement its unified communications offering.

Oracle already has a Session Border Controller, which has been certified for interworking with Microsoft Azure Communication Services (ACS), and enables migrations from current carrier agreements to cloud-based communications.

The cloud applications and platform provider has already made its commitment to CPaaS clear with Payam Sharifi Group VP, Worldwide Sales, Oracle Communications GBU, describing it as “the future of the digital-first customer experience” in a company blog post in 2022.

Oracle offers integrated communications and cloud solutions for enterprises and service providers to speed up their digital transformation across network evolution, customer experience, and more.
