Samsung Semiconductor India Innovates with Automated 5G Field Testing Solution – Siliconindia

Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) has implemented an end-to-end 5G wireless protocol signaling solution to streamline and automate its 5G field-to-lab workflow at its Bangalore lab in India. The initiative, leveraging Keysight Technologies’ Signaling Field-To-Lab (S-FTL) solution, aims to enhance the quality of experience (QoE) for end-users by expediting the replication, analysis, and resolution of 5G field issues in a controlled test lab environment.

Balajee Sowrirajan, Corporate EVP and MD of SSIR, underscored the strategic partnership’s role in recreating real-world field scenarios within a lab setting. This capability accelerates the resolution of communication and connectivity challenges faced by wireless modem customers. The S-FTL solution equips engineers with a robust set of tools to pinpoint and resolve communication issues accurately, thereby optimizing validation costs and turnaround times.

SSIR highlighted the solution’s effectiveness in addressing diverse challenges such as voice and data calls, handovers, 5G to 4G mobility, and carrier aggregation across various deployment scenarios including single SIM, dual SIM, and dual connectivity setups. The primary challenge lies in replicating complex field problems in the lab, typically involving time-consuming analysis of field logs complicated by missing data or errors.

The S-FTL solution addresses these challenges by automating the process of converting field logs into test scenarios. This automation frees up engineers to focus on troubleshooting and solution development rather than log analysis or test case creation. Leveraging the 5G Protocol R&D Toolset, the solution automatically adjusts field logs for 5G, 4G, and IMS protocols to ensure compliance and replicates field scenarios accurately in a lab environment.

Furthermore, the S-FTL solution features an adaptable input log template supporting various formats, facilitating seamless integration into existing workflows. This capability enhances SSIR’s agility and efficiency in resolving complex 5G field issues, marking a significant advancement in their research and development capabilities.
