SK telecom announced on Wednesday that it is launching a cloud appliance product based on ARM servers, thus enabling cost-effective and efficient infrastructure to be built.

The cloud appliance product is the result of integrating SK telecom’s virtualization technology with ARM-based servers, optimizing commercial software. It can be utilized both within a company’s on-site infrastructure and in cloud environments.

SK telecom said its internal verification data show that the cloud appliance product reduces power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to x86-based products in environments processing the same traffic, while delivering up to a 120 percent performance improvement for the same power consumption.

SK telecom is collaborating with server manufacturer Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Korea and Korean software company TmaxSoft. HPE Korea will supply ARM-based servers, while SK applies its virtualization solution.
