T-Mobile Ranks First on 5G Download Speeds Again Despite Small Dip in May – Tech Times

Ookla published a new report that details the latest 5G internet speeds and their ranks, with T-Mobile ranking as the first among the Big Three in US telcos for the nth time again. T-Mobile outperformed Verizon and AT&T, but the former is seen to be closing in on the median 5G internet download speed to the top-ranked service.

However, T-Mobile did not entirely win all the categories in the latest report, as Verizon caught up to it in one test from Ookla.

First, it took the US 5G Median Download Speeds category, peaking at 287.14 Mbps in March, increasing its numbers by as much as 29.64 Mbps, claims the report. This is thanks to T-Mobile’s latest addition of a 2.5 GHz spectrum, which it won at an auction in 2022.

The company also ranked first in the 5G Net Promoter Scores (NPS),  the 5G Video Quality of Experience metrics, and the Mid-band spectrum improvements for urban and rural 5G performance.

Verizon is seen to be following closely behind T-Mobile in second place, with AT&T remaining in third, but improvements are also seen from the company.

Verizon Overtook T-Mobile in 5G Upload Speed

That being said, Verizon took two categories from T-Mobile in this latest Ookla report, and first off, it is with the US5G Median Upload and Latency Performance from Q3 2023 to Q1 2024.

Next, it also surpassed T-Mobile in the 5G Gaming Quality of Experience, while T-Mobile took the top rank in video streaming quality.

T-Mobile and 5G Internet Speed Reports

The last Ookla report on 5G internet speeds for Q4 2023 named T-Mobile as the top company with the most powerful service based on the tests done by the company. However, this report from earlier this year also saw Verizon and AT&T catching up to T-Mobile in their numbers, but the landslide win in these tests still goes to the renowned top company.

In February, T-Mobile introduced its latest development in its wireless 5G service, which it claimed would provide a more powerful experience to its subscribers from then on out. This is called the ‘uplink transmit,’ which upgraded its systems to deliver improved capabilities using its sub-6GHz spectrum, which it claimed to be the fastest in the North American region.

There is healthy competition among the Big Three of telecommunications, and this only shows that all of them are improving their services for customers and enjoying the renowned power of 5G.

T-Mobile won the latest report from Ookla by topping the 5G median download speeds, NPS scores, video and gaming quality, and mid-band spectrum in urban & rural areas, Verizon took the 5G upload category for itself.
