Ucell, Nexign Test Converged Charging Solution in 5G Standalone (SA) Networks – The Fast Mode
Nexign and Ucell, a cellular operator in Uzbekistan, have successfully completed testing of the Nexign Converged Charging solution in 5G Standalone (SA) networks on the N40 interface.
Ucell was one of the first in the country to deploy 5G SA technology based on the latest fifth generation network core (5GC). The Nexign Converged Charging System (CCS) will provide the operator with convergent HTTP billing and unified balance management in 4G and 5G networks. Nexign’s CCS platform interacts with Nokia, Huawei and ZTE’s 5G multi-vendor core environment and seamlessly integrates with Nexign BSS, a business support system that Ucell uses to service more than 8 million subscribers.
One of the cases tested during the pilot was online billing for fixed wireless access (FWA) services. In addition, the registration and start of the session in the 5G SA for FWA subscribers with the help of CPE from different suppliers were carried out successfully. The key point was that while a subscriber switches from 5G SA to LTE, the billing continues on OCS using the Ro Diameter protocol without interrupting active internet sessions.
Uzbekistan is a promising market for the development of high-speed Internet access services through FWA technology, since more than half of the population lives in villages and hard-to-reach areas where the deployment of fiber-based broadband access is not cost-effective for the operator. In the future, the new 5G SA technological infrastructure will allow Ucell to offer customers tariffs taking into account quality of service parameters based on network segmentation and service level agreements. This guarantees high data transfer rates and low latency.
Maxim Nartov, director of business development at Nexign
Uzbekistan is one of the most dynamically developing telecom markets in Central Asia, and Ucell is one of Nexign’s most innovative clients in this market. We have been cooperating for a long time and are glad that our solutions will allow the operator to realize the potential of the technical capabilities of 5G SA networks among the first in the country. Ucell will be able to test innovative models of working with new verticals and types of clients. With the help of the Nexign Converged Charging System, the operator will be able to create individual tariffs for B2C and B2B clients with different requirements for communication quality, flexibly package and monetize their own and partner services.
