Ultra-Reliable IoT Connectivity Achieved via Partnership Between Ceva and STMicroelectronics – IoT Evolution World

Let’s talk about Ceva, Inc. today, readers.

I recall the last time I had the pleasure of covering Ceva; our coverage, unsurprisingly, dove into the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), in terms of Ceva’s general release of its next-gen RivieraWaves Wi-Fi 7 IP platform. This further expanded its already sizable portfolio of connectivity solutions, particularly targeting high-end consumer IoT and industrial/Industry 4.0 applications. The RivieraWaves Wi-Fi 7 IP leverages advanced features of the IEEE 802.11be standard to deliver a premium high-performance, cost-effective and power-optimized Wi-Fi solution for integration into the next wave of Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) and Station (STA) products.

Ceva, as we know, is made up of teams with big-time passion when it comes to the smart edge, seamless wireless communications, innovative silicon and software IP solutions (to name a handful here) that enable IoT/IIoT products to connect, sense and infer data both efficiently and reliable.

That’s why the company made an announcement earlier this morning:

Ceva has partnered with STMicroelectronics, as the latter has officially licensed and deployed a Ceva offering: the Ceva-Waves Dragonfly NB-IoT platform. Through this effort, STMicroelectronics integrated Ceva’s tech into its recently introduced ST87M01 ultra-compact, low-power line of modules. These combine NB-IoT data communication – robust and reliable – with resilient GNSS geo-location capabilities for IoT devices and assets.

This comes at a great time, too; according to Ericsson’s Mobility Report, forecasts indicate that the number of total cellular IoT connections may grow from 3 billion (recorded last year) to upwards of 6.1 billion by 2029, representing a compound annual growth rate of 12%. Thus, the ST87M01 does its part to address such a notable growth opportunity – by integrating the Ceva-Waves Dragonfly, a wider range of IoT/IIoT applications can be via leveraged NB-IoT. Possibilities for enhanced functionality therein include (but certainly aren’t limited to) industrial condition monitoring, factory automation, smart meters and grids (amongst other smart infrastructure cases), plus smart agriculture-related efforts, environmental monitoring and more. By enabling efficient data transmission, reduced time-to-market and a lower barrier of entry come closer and closer into view.

Per Tal Shalev, Vice President and General Manager of Wireless IoT Business at Ceva:

“We are proud to collaborate closely with STMicroelectronics and empower them to push the boundaries of cellular IoT performance and power efficiency with our complete Release 15 Cat-NB2 modem IP solution. The very impressive ST87M01 NB-IoT/GNSS module is tailored to the demanding requirements of the industrial market and we look forward to seeing the module successfully deployed in the field.”

And per Domenico Arrigo, General Manager of Application-Specific Product Division at STMicroelectronics:

“Ceva-Waves Dragonfly platform was the outstanding choice for our ST87M01 NB-IoT/GNSS full in-house module. Conceiving, designing, and industrializing the complete module internally required tight collaboration and top-class engineering support, which the Ceva team provided seamlessly.”
