[Marrakesh, Morocco, May 30, 2024] During GITEX AFRICA 2024, Huawei, together with Arab Information and Communication Technology Organization (AICTO) and IPv6 Forum, held the Africa IP GALA 2024 summit. Themed “Bring Net5.5G into Reality, Inspire New Growth,” the summit aimed to promote the upgrade of the Net5.5G industry and usher in the Net5.5G era in Africa.

At the summit, the Arab IPv6 Council officially kicked off the first Arab-Africa IPv6 & Net5.5G Innovation Contest. Hosted by the Arab IPv6 Council and co-organized by AICTO, IPv6 Forum, and Huawei, the contest aims to expedite the development of information and communications technologies in Arab and African regions, drive the evolution of network infrastructure to Net5.5G, and promote IPv6 deployment in key industries. It also aims to accelerate carriers’ network innovation and stimulate growth potential. The contest provides a technical exchange platform for creative organizations and individuals to demonstrate IP network innovation achievements, spark innovation, and accelerate regional digitalization. Carriers, enterprises, universities, research institutes, and individuals in the Arab and African regions can register for the contest here. Entries will be evaluated and awards presented in October 2024.

This summit brought together more than 100 guests from African telecommunications regulators, industry organizations, carriers, and think tanks. Through the professional exchange platform built at the summit, participants gave their take on the current development of the global IP industry, IP technology evolution and innovation, and successful business practices of African carriers.

Addressing attendees, Leon Wang, President of Huawei’s Data Communication Product Line, said that digital technologies are pushing industries to new heights. The expansion of Africa’s digital economy requires powerful IP networks as the foundation of ICT infrastructure. Carriers and industry organizations have reached a consensus that a next-generation Net5.5G IP network needs to be constructed to support 10GE connections for home broadband, mobile broadband, enterprise private line, and enterprise campus services. Huawei hopes to work with operators and industry organizations to promote Net5.5G from concept research to application deployment and inspire operators’ new growth.
